Beer Sample Flight

The Reduced Fed Tax on Craft Beer is Permanent Now, Do You Feel It?

Craft beers are known for their "flights" to taste. And the tax system came to their rescue. Innovation and hardwork is being rewarded.

Beer produced in 2021 is not a record setting year. But, Craft Beer is a force.

Just received the 2021 year-end data from the TTB (Tax and Trade Bureau) for beer production. With January 2022 data not available, this may be considered current data.

For 2021 there were a total of 180,857,586 barrels of beer produced in the U.S. Compared to prior year 2020 that is a 30,000-barrel increase, statistically insignificant. No data is available for 2021 compared to production from brewers in the under 6,000,000 barrels per year category.

Though we lack detailed data by state for 2021, it may be noted that December 2021 had a 6% drop in barrels produced versus prior year. December 2021 versus same month 2020 had a total barrel production of 14,502,969 and 15,425,254 million barrels respectively-a 921,285-barrel decrease.

I received several questions relating to beer demand seasonally. In 2021, beer production for May, June, July, August and September is 50% of beer produced for the remaining 7 months. June has the highest production.
